In the spring of 1941, Governor Charles Sprague called together roughly 250 Oregon leaders to form a Keep Oregon Green Association after public outcry over the human-caused Tillamook Burns.
In its early years, KOG worked hard to fight against human-caused wildfires using publicity, such as radio, newspapers, newscasts, billboards, editorials, advertisements and news stories.

Today, KOG uses more modern methods like social media, streaming, and websites. KOG’s mission is to promote healthy landscapes and safe communities by educating the public of everyone’s shared responsibility to prevent human-caused wildfires.
