About This Activity
Work with a public venue (a fire department, a library, a government building, an HOA) and a local nursery to create a Firewise demonstration garden. A demonstration garden is where a variety of fire-resistant plants grow, and interpretive signage or informative labels help teach people about each plant’s benefits as it relates to home protection, such as serving as natural wind or heat barriers. People can walk through the garden self-guided and learn at their own pace, or you can offer guided tours. The goal is for visitors to take the plant information back to their community and encourage people to transform the landscape around their own home– and beyond.
